Immunologist Srdja Jankovic said on Dec. 30 that the arrival of the new year should be celebrated in a limited, family circle.

“Every gathering carries a risk. At the moment all such events bringing together more than five people are banned. My advice is that no one should gather a larger group,” Jankovic told the RTS public service, adding that not honoring that recommendation would lead to a new surge in the coronavirus epidemic in January.

He also said he does not know how long the immunity provided by the vaccine would last. “It is still too early to talk about collective immunity. The vaccine is a powerful means, it protects both the individual and the community,” he added.

Epidemiologist Predrag Kon said on Dec. 30 for TV Pink that the vaccine against the coronavirus shows that there is reason for hope in the coming year.
