The Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS) reported on Dec. 30 that the first consignment of 2,400 doses of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine against Covid-19 had arrived in Serbia.
The RTS public service added the immunization could start in the first days of 2021.
The Russian ambassador to Belgrade, Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko, had said on Dec. 29 that the first batch of the Russian vaccine would be in Serbia "by the end of the year."
Serbia has received just under 5,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and reports say negotiations are underway with other producers, leading to additional deliveries early in 2021.
