Dr Srdja Jankovic (Beta/Serbian Government/Slobodan Miljevic)

Srdja Jankovic, an immunologist and member of the Serbian Crisis Headquarters, said on Jan. 8 that the epidemiological circumstances in Serbia had not improved so much "that we can start talking about the epidemic waning."

The basic measures against the coronavirus are the most important, he told the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation, and the vaccine is only an "adjunct."

Jankovic said any vaccine that was registered and effective could be used. "In Serbia we currently have two vaccines available against corona -- Pfizer's and Sputnik V, so the citizens will be able to choose which vaccine they want to receive," he explained.

The interval between the two doses of the vaccine is at least three weeks, as it is important for the body to receive information about the antigen twice, he added.

He noted that people who had already had COVID-19 needed to get vaccinated, too, because reinfection is a possibility.
