Immunologist Srdja Jankovic said on Jan. 18 that, for the time being, there will be no relaxation of measures against COVID-19, as the current epidemiological situation in Serbia shows only initial signs of improvement.
“This is not the time to discuss the relaxation of measures; it’s important that we still respect the measures that are in force,” Jankovic, who is a member of the National COVID-19 Crisis Headquarters, told the RTS public service.
When asked about the difference between the old and new coronavirus strain, Jankovic replied that it is a matter of infectivity. “For now, the only difference established between the old and the new strain of the virus is that the new strain is more easily transmitted. Currently, there’s no evidence that it causes a more severe disease,” he said.
No matter how much faith we put in the vaccines, it is still essential to maintain the physical distance and wear masks, the immunologist stressed.
The individuals who wish to get vaccinated against COVID-19, should first consult their primary care physician if they suffer from any chronic diseases, as should pregnant women, women who are planning pregnancy and those prone to allergies.
