State Secretary in the Ministry of Health Mirsad Djerlek has said that as of Jan. 26 the medical personnel carrying out the vaccination against COVID-19 at the Belgrade Fair temporary hospital will be working in two shifts, inoculating around 10,000 people per day.
According to his statement for the Happy TV, a total of 58 nurses will be administering the vaccine at the temporary hospital. Since Dec. 24, when the mass-vaccination in Serbia had begun, no case of serious side effects has been reported, Djerlek added.
In a statement for the Pink TV from Jan. 25, epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorovic warned that “where the measures are not fully respected, with the higher infection rate comes a higher mortality rate,” adding that no mater how successful the vaccination might be, all measures in force must fully be adhered to.
When asked if the fear of the new strain of COVID-19 is justified, Tiodorovic replied that the higher number of cases is a result the new strain’s higher infectivity, which in turn, results in a higher death rate of the new strain compared to the currently active variant of the virus.
