Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic stated on Feb. 8 that the letter that U.S. President Joseph Biden had sent to congratulate Serbia on its Statehood Day, in which he also called for mutual recognition of Serbia and Kosovo, is a sign that Serbia can expect 2021 to be a year of great pressures and temptations.

“The talks with the new U.S. administration won’t be easy or simple. We have taken our stand, the U.S. has taken theirs; but this is not a reason to give up on our position, but rather [a call to] to continue fighting wisely and patiently,” Selakovic said for Happy TV.

He said that Biden’s message did not really surprise him, but what did was that the intentions of the new administration were expressed in a letter sent on the occasion of the Serbian national holiday.

“This shows the stand of the U.S. foreign policy, but what’s most important for us is that the international organizations and the EU, with which we are negotiation, do not have acts that name such things as conditions; and that our stand, communicated by [Serbian] President Aleksandar Vucic in the White House, is clear,” Selakovic added.
