A batch of 50,000 doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine arrived at the Belgrade International Airport Nikola Tesla on Feb. 9.

The Minister without portfolio in charge of innovations and technological development, Nenad Popovic, who was present at the loading of the shots in Moscow,  said that the delivery of Covid-19 jabs “is the hardest evidence of brotherly relations between the two countries.”

“No country in Europe has received as many doses of Russian vaccines as Serbia. At this moment, when Russia itself is facing problems with the distribution of jabs within the country, Russia has been helping the brotherly Serbia and has been sending the shots that we are in need of,” the minister said, according to a release from his office.

Popovic added that if immunization continued at this pace, Serbia “could be the first country to defeat the pandemic,” and thereby be able “to continue strengthening its economy and attracting investments, and consequently fortify its position of the economic leader in this part of Europe.”

Upon the arrival at the Belgrade airport, the shots were transported to the Torlak Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera, from where they will be distributed to vaccination centers across Serbia.
