Deputy director of Nis’ Clinical Center, Radmilo Jankovic, is of the opinion that the only way to break the vicious cycle and put a stop to the rise in the number of new COVID-19 cases is to lock everything down for two to three weeks, while keeping the vaccination pace.
He said for the March 1 issue of the Kurir daily that there can be no economic excuse, “especially one which holds that the hospitality and other services may help maintain some economic levels,” that can justify the daily loss of human lives.
“We have to go for measures that will result in no [coronavirus-related] deaths. By no means can we be satisfied with a balance between life and the epidemic in which we know that people will continue to die every day,” Jankovic said.
Zemun Hospital head Dragos Stojanovic said on the same day that his hospital has admitted 293 COVID-19 patients so far and that with each day that number increases by five to ten people, adding that around three tons of oxygen is being used daily.
“We’re back to that phase when we had the greatest number of patients,” Stojanovic said for the RTS public service.
