EU Special Representative for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Miroslav Lajcak  in Pristina on March 2 said he expected the dialogue to be finalized during the term in office of Albin Kurti as the premier and Vjosa Osmani as the president of Kosovo.

Lajcak said that the EU had been working in partnership with the U.S., adding that with the election of President Joseph Biden, the relation had grown closer and that they shared the same goal for the Western Balkans.

“The message is that the EU member states and the U.S. are looking forward for the resumption of the dialogue, which includes important issues for each citizen. That is why I have talked with Kurti and Osmani to see where we are in the dialogue. The conclusion of these meetings is that the dialogue will resume, there are internal procedures, but it will resume,” Lajcak said.

Osmani said that there was no need for the dialogue to discuss the status of Kosovo “as an independent and sovereign state, which was finalized on Feb. 17, 2008. We therefore expect the process to end with Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo with its existing borders,” Osmani said.

On March 2, Lajcak, who is on a three-day visit to Kosovo, is scheduled to meet with Kosovo officials and representatives of political parties.
