Kosovo has officially opened an embassy in Jerusalem, Israel, Radio Free Europe reported on March 14, quoting a release by the Kosovo Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Due to Kosovo's senior officials not being able to travel to Jerusalem to attend the opening ceremony because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Kosovo foreign ministry mandated the charge d'affaires in Israel to unveil the plaque together with Israeli Foreign Minister Gabriel Ashkenazi, and place it on the Kosovo embassy building in Jerusalim, together with its flag," the Ministry said in the release.
The Ministry went on to say that by opening the embassy in Jerusalim it had delivered on a promise that it had made when it established diplomatic relations with Israel, on Feb. 1. "The Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Jerusalem will be committed to expanding bilateral ties and strengthening the international subjectivity of the State of Kosovo."
The establishment of diplomatic ties between Kosovo and Israel was arranged by an agreement on the economic normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, signed in Washington, on Sept. 4, 2020. The signing ceremony at the White House was attended by then U.S. president, Donald Trump.
