Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic called on March 29 the European Parliament’s (EP) resolution on Serbia, which had been adopted the week before, “beyond any truth,” adding that it speaks volumes about the MEPs who have voted for it.
“It’s up to us to read it, to be self-critical as much as possible, and to change certain things if there’s reason to believe that it would make Serbia stronger and that it would improve the lives of the citizens. But, let me repeat – if there is a reason for that,” Brnabic said for Happy TV.
According to her, if someone is accusing Serbia of not conducting enough COVID-19 tests, or that the country lacks medical equipment, one should “just wave it off and say – I’ve much more important things to do right now, and I’ll work on what makes sense.”
“The value system of [Serbian] President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian government belongs more to the European values, which we have shown by vaccinating people from the region, than the European values are shared and supported by the MEPs who voted for this resolution,” Brnabic said.
Commenting on the section of the resolution that pertains to Kosovo and the efforts of the authorities in Belgrade to “delegitimize the statehood of Kosovo,” she said that Serbia does not recognize Kosovo’s independence. “This resolution is not backed by the European Commission (EC). I find solace in this, and hope, because the EC has to be status neutral, given the fact that five other member states do not recognize the illegitimate Kosovo state,” the prime minister said.
