Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and EU delegation head in Serbia Sem Fabrizi said in Belgrade on Apr. 13 that "meaningful and effective" steps needed to be taken to fight corruption.

They stressed that legislation and strategies needed to be developed through inclusive and contentful consultations with all actors, the Presidency has said in a statement.

They also concluded that in the process of Serbia's accession to the EU it was necessary to adjust strategies and legislation in other areas of basic rights such as gender equality and violence against women, as well that it was essential to carry out meaningful and effective steps in the battle against corruption.

Ambassador Fabrizi stressed that progress in the rule of law and democratic governance was one of the key elements dictating the pace of Serbia's progress in its bid to join the EU.
