Serbian Patriotic Alliance leader Aleksandar Sapic has said that his party and the Serbian Progressive Party will become part of one common political organization by the end of May, adding that "no elections or positions are the motive" for their unification.

In an interview with the May 7 issue of daily Politika, Sapic said that when the talks would continue would be defined in the next few days.

"I am sure that over the next two to three weeks we will come to some agreement and that already at the end of this month we will be a part of a common political organization," said Sapic.

Asked whether the merging of the Serbian Progressive Party and the Serbian Patriotic Alliance would solve the issue of the Progressive candidate for Belgrade mayor, Sapic replied, "We will see," adding that "there are 11 months left until the election for the Belgrade City Assembly."

"I certainly have the most knowledge, experience and results in local politics and that is certainly the field in which I can contribute the most. As the elections draw near, so will all parties, in line with the situation and circumstances, prepare their formations for the different positions required by the elections ahead of us. I am completely sure that we will have the best and strongest candidates for all positions," said Sapic.
