Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic on May 11 underlined the importance of finding a common response to the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Addressing a virtual meeting of the Adriatic-Ionian Council and a ministerial meeting of the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR), Selakovic also highlighted the importance of solidarity. He said it was necessary to direct all available resources of the Initiative at finding a common response to challenges triggered by the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a release from the Serbian Foreign Ministry.
“Serbia’s commitment to continue building EU prospect and strengthening regional cooperation is unequivocal,” Selakovic said, adding that Serbia had been paying particular attention to green and digital transition in line with the European Green Deal, backed by relevant EU program funds.
Selakovic also recalled that guided by the principles of solidarity, Serbia had vaccinated a large number of foreign nationals, primarily those in the region, and had donated Covid-19 shots to the neighboring countries. “Although not being among the economically strongest countries of the Initiative, Serbia wished to demonstrate that solidarity was not exclusively the privilege of the rich,” Selakovic said.
