Aleksandar Vucic

A professor of the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad and the former judge of the Constitutional Court of Serbia, Svetozar Ciplic, stated on May 13 that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had turned Serbia into a constitutional anarchy by violating the Constitution and his constitutional authority.

Ciplic told BETA that, in the past four years, since May 31, 2017 when he took the office of Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic had violated the Constitution several hundred times. Ciplic recollected that any interference by the president with the work of the government and the judicial authority, represented a flagrant violation of the Constitution.

"Vucic has taken the jobs of all ministers, the prime minister, the state prosecutor, directors of public enterprises, editors of public media services. That is impermissible! The president receives the credentials from foreign ambassadors, issues pardons to convicts, signs laws and promotes army officers into generals," Ciplic stated.

One of the most drastic examples of violation of the Constitution of Serbia took place in Washington, "where Vucic signed agreements with the United States and Israel about Kosovo, although he has no legal or constitutional authority to sign inter-state agreements," stated the former judge of the Constitutional Court.
