Serbia's leading epidemiologist, Dr Branislav Tiodorovic, said that the Serbian Agency for Medicines and Medicinal Devices was launching proceedings to approve the use of Pfizer-BioNTech's vaccine for children over 12.
Dr Tiodorovic said in a May 31 interview with the Vecernje Novosti newspaper that its very important that the European Medicines Agency had approved its use for children aged between 12 and 16.
"The decision is very important, because the immunization process will involve a group of schoolchildren that play a considerable role in the transmission of the virus," the epidemiologist said, adding that the vaccination will not be mandatory.
"Whether a child will receive the vaccine or not will be a decision to be made by parents, advised by their pediatrician, who is familiar with the health status of their child," Tiodorovic said.
