European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson said during a visit to Obrenovac, on June 18, that the European Union (EU) wanted to step up cooperation with Serbia as a migrant route to the Union.
"No country can manage migration alone. Cooperation is crucial. We are here to support our cooperation on different migration-related aspects, including border management and the prevention of human trafficking," Johansson said during a tour of revamped facilities at the Obrenovac Reception Center.
Johansson underlined that nearly three million people entered the Union every year, and that around a million and a half left it annually. "The European Union's population adds nearly a million and a half people every year. For that we need migration, but we also need to try and make the process legal," she added.
Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Sem Fabrizi and Serbian Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Vucic also visited Obrenovac.
