Serbia's leading epidemiologist, Dr Kon, recommended on Aug. 18 a third dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, describing as "shocking" a decision by some medical professionals to refuse vaccination and sign a petition against it.
Dr Kon, who is also a member of the Serbian government's Covid-19 Crisis Headquarters, said in an interview with the Pink TV that anyone who had received a second dose no less than 180 days ago was eligible for a booster shot.
"The recommendation goes for everyone, there's no pressure, but there are priorities. A booster shot is strongly recommended for those with weakened immune systems, people over 70 years of age, and if in collective accommodation, the age limit goes down to 60 years of age," the doctor said, adding that irrespectively of the vaccine manufacturer chosen for the first two doses, a third dose may differ from the original vaccine.
In a comment on vaccine hesitancy among healthcare workers, Dr Kon said that "it's ethically unacceptable that doctors are still refusing to be immunized."
