Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic has stated in the Congress of Guatemala that Serbia shares the same values with the countries of Central America, which are the struggle for a more humane, just and solidary world.

At a ceremonial session of the Guatemalan Congress’ Committee for Foreign Affairs held on Sept. 29, on behalf of the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, the Serbian Government and the people Selakovic congratulated these countries on the 200th anniversary of their independence, according to a press release from the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Despite great physical distance between our nations I am proud to be with you and present Serbia as a country sharing the same values with the Central American states. Our nations are freedom-loving, we share the same values and we are proud of our friendship with the Central American states,” Selakovic stated.

He pointed out that Belgrade is resolved to strengthen cooperation with all countries of that part of the world and within the framework of regional organizations, and expressed Serbia’s gratitude for the observer status it holds in the Central American Integration System (SICA).

Speaking about the importance of regional organizations, Selakovic also said that Serbia is “the leader in regional initiatives in the Western Balkans and South East Europe,” adding that this is confirmed by the Open Balkans Initiative in which it participates with North Macedonia and Albania, the release said.
