Europe Talks
The Europe Talks project, organized by ZEIT ONLINE and media partners from 17 European countries, kicks off on Oct. 1.
The campaign will offer people from all of Europe an opportunity to take part in a cross-border debate on controversial political issues.
All participants who register via a survey, which will also be available in Beta News Agency news, will get a chance to connect with a person from a European state who has completely opposite views on a particular subject. The participants will communicate mainly via video calls, in English.
Some of the topics will be vaccination against the coronavirus, banning cars running on fossil fuels, or the issue of migration. The final event will take place on Dec. 12.
ZEIT ONLINE is organizing the project in association with a large network of European media: Beta News Agency and N1 TV from Serbia, Bulgarian BTV, Daily Mirror from Great Britain, Austria's Der Standard, Greek Efimerida ton Syntakton, El Confidencial and Newtral from Spain, Poland's Gazeta Wyborcza and Onet, Hromadske.ua from Ukraine, Italy's La Repubblica, Les Surligneurs and Le Monde from France, Lithuanian LRT, Hungarian Telex, Times of Malta, Vox Europe from Belgium, Deutsche Welle from Germany, Portugal's RTP, and RFI from Romania participating as part of the ENTR platform.
The project is backed by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Cultural Foundation, and the Allianz Kulturstiftung and Hippocréne foundations, with Goethe-Institut as a partner on the project.
The idea is based on ZEIT ONLINE's project from four years ago called Germany Talks, which encouraged people with different political views to exchange opinions. In collaboration with foreign partners, ZEIT ONLINE raised the project to a higher level and so far more than 200,000 people from around the world have taken part in it.
