There were 3,219 new cases of infection among the 16,864 tested samples, according to information the Institute for Public Health of Serbia published on Nov. 18. There are 6,599 covid patients currently being treated in hospitals, 259 of them on ventilators. 6,637,903 people have been tested since the start of the epidemic in Serbia, and the presence of the virus has been confirmed in 1,225,242 cases.

The deputy director of the University Clinical Center in Nis, Radmilo Jankovic, assessed on Nov. 18 that the situation with the epidemic had improved slightly, but that reasons for optimism were still far away.

"We are moving towards winter and it is not realistic to expect any drastic improvements," Jankovic said in an interview to the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS). He added that he did not believe the epidemic would ease off during the winter enough for any possibility of relaxing.
