Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic will arrive Dec. 20 for a two-day visit to Tirana, where he will hold talks with the prime ministers of Albania and North Macedonia, Edi Rama and Zoran Zaev, as part of the Open Balkans initiative for regional cooperation.
The last such meeting was held in Belgrade on Nov. 4, when it was announced that the following conference in Tirana might involve signing a Memorandum on Understanding regarding Work Permits. Said document would render any work permit issued in one of the three countries automatically valid in all three members of the Open Balkans.
The regional initiative, at first known as the Mini Schengen, was renamed the Open Balkans in late July, when Rama, Zaev and Vucic met in Skopje.
The Skopje meeting was also marked by an agreement to remove border controls between the three countries as of Jan. 1, 2023, as well as three memoranda -- one easing imports, exports and the transport of goods, one on free access to the labor market and one on cooperation in protection against natural disasters.
