The 40-member Ukrainian contingent serving as part of KFOR mission in Kosovo has prepared to pull out from Kosovo following President Volodymyr Zelensky’s order for urgent withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from various peacekeeping missions and their immediate return to the homeland.

According to portal the Balkan Security Network (BSN), the Ukrainian contingent was stationed at Camp Bondsteel near Urosevac, serving as part of KFOR unit responsible for the eastern part of Kosovo.

The troops will not be returning to Ukraine via central Serbia and Hungary for undisclosed reasons. Although Zelensky ordered the return of all Ukrainian troops serving outside the country on March 7, a source from the KFOR Command initially said that the Ukrainian troops would remain in Kosovo.

“After a several-week delay, keeping trained troops outside Ukraine has become absurd amid the difficult situation of the Ukrainian Army. Consequently, the Ukrainian contingent in Camp Bondsteel has been order to return to Ukraine,” BSN has reported.

According to the portal, it remains open how the Ukrainian troops will be transported back home – by land along with combat, utility and other vehicles to Poland and Romania, or by aircraft without heavy weapons.
