Ivica Dacic, the leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia and the party’s candidate for prime minister in next weekend’s parliamentary elections, has reiterated that imposing sanctions on Russia is against the current government’s foreign policy and that such a move is not in Serbia’s best interest.
“We are under immense pressure to alter our stance but our determination to protect Serbia from any bad scenario that could harm [the country’s] interests is just as great. That is why we need people who can resist pressure and make the best possible decisions for their country,” Dacic told the March 30 edition of the Politika daily.
According to him, re-electing Aleksandar Vucic – whom the Socialists support and their joint presidential candidate with the Serbian Progressive Party – means voting “for a peaceful and stable Serbia, as it has been so far, even in the hardest of times.”
