The Serbian movement Dveri’s leader, Bosko Obradovic, said on April 4 that “to improve the quality of Serbian democracy it would be right to give Belgrade to the opposition,” adding that final results were still unknown, but that government and opposition were “neck-and-neck.”
“It would mean a significant breakthrough in Serbian politics. Belgrade’s government has collapsed, it can no longer count on a dominant majority it has relied on, which means that people want change,” Obradovic said in an interview with Prva TV, explaining that he didn’t consult the Patriotic Bloc regarding the mater. The Dveri leader suggested that if the current government stayed in power at the central level, and the opposition took over the capital, it could strike a balance in Serbian politics.
When asked if in Belgrade’s government he would rather work with the opposition than the current authorities, Obradovic said: “Of course, Dveri is an opposition party, but we are prepared to work only with those who are ready to accept our platform.”
When asked what he would do if Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic offered him a post in the cabinet, he said that he would never abandon the platform, whoever he might be talking with, the government or the opposition. “Dveri is not willing to pay any price to join a government, particularly this one, which it has been a very strong critic of. Our goal is to see our platform materialized,” Obradovic said.
