EU, World Bank Reps Sign Contract on Project To Support Innovation in Serbia

Representatives of the European Union and of the World Bank signed a contract in Belgrade on May 19, on their joint project to support research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Serbia.

The project encompasses, among other things, the structural reforms and modernization of the research sector, and the further strengthening of the startup community, which should contribute to Serbia's competitiveness on the European and international markets.

The contract was signed in the Science and Technology Park by the chief of the EU Delegation in Belgrade, Emanuele Giaufret, and the project manager of the World Bank, Dusko Vasiljevic, in the presence of the Serbian president and prime minister, Aleksandar Vucic and Ana Brnabic, and President of the European Council Charles Michel.

Vucic has stated that nothing would have happened regarding the Science and Technology Park without the EU's support, and that the Park nowadays included 120 companies.

The president of the European Council, Charles Michel, has stated that Serbia was not only a partner, but also a friend of the European Union and that Serbia and the EU "share a joint future."

Brnabic has stated that investing into innovation was a way to increase the average salaries and pensions. She went on to say that the average monthly salary of a computer programmer was nowadays RSD 245,000, and that there were more than 90,000 programmers employed in Serbia.
