Montenegrin Parliament Speaker Danijela Djurovic has condemned the recent event when Montenegrin Parliament MPs Amer Smailovic and Danilo Saranovic were held for an extended time at Serbia’s border crossing, saying that such treatment “is not good” for friendly and good neighborly relations between the two countries.
“Such events are not good for overall friendly and good neighborly relations between Montenegro and Serbia, particularly because they have been reoccurring,” Djurovic has written on her Twitter account.
Democratic Montenegro MP Danilo Saranovic and Bosniak Party MP Amer Smailovic have said that while exiting Serbia several days ago, they encountered inconveniences at the border crossing, involving an extended time for border check and a detailed search. A number of Montenegrin MPs have had similar experience over the past year.
The conduct of the Serbian border police has also been condemned by Democratic Party of Socialists MP Dusko Markovic, describing it as “a devised and long-term campaign of Serbia’s pressure on Montenegro’s politicians, which the Montenegrin government has to be responded to.”
It is a clear signal of disrespect of Montenegro and its institutions, so the government has to respond adequately and immediately, Markovic has posted on his Twitter account.
