Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages in Serbia are the highest in the region and, among the EU member countries, the prices of these products are the highest in Luxembourg, it was announced in a report of the European statistics agency Eurostat.
Prices of consumer goods and services in Serbia are at the level of 60 percent of the EU average, figures of Eurostat for 2021 show. Food and beverages and 15 percent cheaper than the European average, but more expensive than in Albania (82.6 percent of EU average), Montenegro (81.5 percent), Bosnia and Herzegovina (78.4 percent) and North Macedonia (64.2 percent).
Furthermore, Serbia has the highest prices of consumer electronics in the region and in the EU – 19 percent higher than the European average. In Europe, such products are more expensive only in Iceland and in Norway.
As for electricity, gas and other energy sources – prices are approximately the same accross the region and less than half of the EU average. Prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco in Serbia stand at 68.5 percent of the European average, while clothes and footwear are somewhat cheaper than in the EU (around 93 percent).
