In the first six months of 2022, the number of people in southern and eastern Serbia reduced by nearly 5,900 due to negative population growth, according to latest data published by the Serbian Statistical Office. In the same period, 3,120 babies were born, while 8,998 people died.

Figures look somewhat brighter year-on-year as the number of new births increased by 1.5 percent and the number of deaths dropped by 0.8 percent.

Due to negative growth, Serbia’s population in the first half of 2022 declined by 31,012.
