Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Jan. 7 that Serbia must analyze global circumstances well and that "we should be aware that everything will depend on our own resources - no one will put in the effort, or help in the hardest situations," which he said history had proved too.

"In World War II, when we tore down the pact with Hitler, the English rejoiced, but when asked if they would help us, they said that wasn't realistic. The same happened in 1999. Russia supported us, but it wasn't realistic for them to give us military assistance," Dacic told Prva TV.

He said one should pursue "a balanced policy and preserve national and state interests." He went on to say that "emotions do not exist in international relations. No one will like us if there isn't an interest involved." On the topic of the recent U.S. military operation in Venezuela, Dacic said that the South American country had been "on our side in every vote in the United Nations and other international organizations, and we need to see how this situation will develop."

"Even though it is not in line with international law, the entire world is reacting relatively reticently because everyone is in the stage of waiting for next steps, that is, what it will mean for international legal order," Dacic said.
