Virologist Says COVID-19 Pandemic Nearing Its End

Virologist Milanko Sekler said on Sept. 20 that “light at the end of the tunnel” could be seen for the coronavirus pandemic, but stressed that caution was necessary and that the epidemic had not ended in Serbia.  

Sekler noted it was good that no new strains had been emerging, adding that some variants had disappeared and that the strains currently causing most infections did not lead to severe diseases.

“There are no serious cases and there is no pressure on the healthcare system,” Sekler said. He stressed that a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccines was still recommended for the vulnerable groups and persons over the age of 50.
