Sanctions against Russia are opposed by 64 percent of Serbia’s citizens, while 16 percent support alignment of Serbia’s policy with the EU regarding this matter, reveals a survey conducted by market and public opinion research agency Faktor Plus.

The poll also shows that one fifth of the respondents have no opinion on the matter, which, according to Faktor Plus Director Vladimir Pejic, indicates that disapproval of sanctions “is not unconditional.” “The answers exhibit nuances. As many as 20 percent of the respondents do not support sanctions, but are not against them either, meaning that certain circumstances could influence their opinion,” Pejic told the Oct. 25 issue of Belgrade daily Blic.

According to the poll, 30 percent of the surveyed do not expect the new Serbian cabinet to impose sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine, 20 percent believe that sanctions are likely and 18 percent that they are "unlikely,” while nearly one third of the respondents are expecting from the new government to “seriously consider” sanctions against Russia.

A legitimate reason for imposing sanctions against Russia, according to more than three thirds of the polled, or 78 percent, would be Moscow’s recognition of Kosovo’s independence
