Josep Borrell

European Union High Representative Josep Borrell said on Nov. 6 that recent developments in relations between Belgrade and Pristina jeopardized years of hard work and the headway made in the dialogue between the two sides and that this was compromising the security situation in the region and beyond.

The European Union calls on both sides to refrain from any unilateral actions that could lead to further tension, Borrell noted in a press release.

Borrell added that the withdrawal of Kosovo Serbs from Kosovo institutions was not the solution to the current contention, and urged Serbia and the representatives of Kosovo Serbs to honor their obligations stemming from the dialogue and return to Kosovo’s institutions, including the police, justice system and local administration. At the same time, the EU again urged the Kosovo authorities to meet their obligations without delay -- namely to immediately extend the time frame for replacing vehicle license plates and halting any punitive actions against the owners of vehicles with license plates with the KM (Kosovo and Metohija) designation, Borrell stressed in a written statement.
