The Serb List party on Nov. 15 said it would not run in early elections in four municipalities in North Kosovo.
“The Serb List party will not run in this election neither will citizens who support our party who account for more than 95 percent of the electorate in this area,” the party said.
Earlier on Nov. 15, the head of the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, said that a snap vote for electing mayors of four municipalities in North Kosovo represented continued legal and institutional violence against the Serbs as the elections had been scheduled for Dec. 18, the day before Saint Nicholas Day, the patron saint of many Serbs.
According to Petkovic, elections for mayors of Serb-majority municipalities without Serbs and the Serb people are senseless and are thereby doomed to failure.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has scheduled for Dec. 18 snap elections for mayors of the municipalities of North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Leposavic, and Zvecan. Mayors of these four Serb-majority municipalities resigned on Nov. 5.
