The ambassadors of EU member states approved on Nov. 30 a decision to cancel visas for Kosovo citizens as of Jan. 1, 2024 at the latest.

As said in Brussels, the EU ambassadors agreed upon a negotiating mandate for a visa-free regime for Kosovo, based on which the EU presidency would begin talks with the European Parliament.

“We have made an important step on Nov. 30 towards visa-free travel for Kosovo, and we now hope to reach an agreement with the European Parliament swiftly to make this promise a reality,” the Council of the European Union announced in a press release.

Visa liberalization has been made possible by Kosovo’s efforts to strengthen border controls, migration management and security, and we trust that this good cooperation will only grow stronger in the future,” Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavsky said.
