Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated on Dec. 21, after completing his visit to Azerbaijan, that the state would continue to invest in the defense industry and into equipping the armed forces and reorganizing the military.

In a statement to journalists in Baku, Vucic said he discussed energy and investments into the defense industry with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. "Aliyev is a man with a serious vision, he is very capable, hard and fears no one. He told me he was convinced that, without a strong military, he would be easy prey for everyone. That will be his plan of action and he recommended it to me, too," Vucic said.

He added that Serbia would continue to invest in the defense industry and that, thanks to the good work of the Finance Ministry, it had "tens and hundreds of millions of euros" for that purpose.

Vucic said the Army of Serbia did not have enough special units, but that this would also change. "We will quadruple their number. Their members will have large salaries, there will be more of them and they will be incomparably better equipped," he stated.
