Freedom, Democracy, Justice Civic Initiative leader Oliver Ivanovic, who was murdered in north Kosovska Mitrovica on Jan. 16, 2018, was a thorn in the side of anyone who employs conflict and tension to their political advantage, said Democratic Party president Zoran Lutovac on occasion of the fifth anniversary of Ivanovic’s assassination.

“The bottom line is that, down there [in Kosovo], Oliver Ivanovic was the voice of reason. A man who, on the one hand, defended the local Serb population but, on the other, was a negotiator, a man who wanted to resolve issues for the good of the general public. And, as such, he was a thorn in the side of anyone wanting to use conflict and tensions for political gain,” Lutovac told Nova S TV.

According to him, Serbia’s current regime has been “saying one thing yet doing another” for nearly 11 years and is clearly using tensions to their political advantage.

“That refers not only to increasing tensions in relations with Pristina but with all [of Serbia’s] neighbors as well. This regime has been striving to homogenize [the Serbian public] by creating the impression that we are simultaneously under attack from without and within,” Lutovac concluded.
