The Serbian Ministry of Information and Telecommunications announced on Jan. 18 that all public administration information is protected and none of the Serbian government’s confidential documents have been exposed. Said statement is a response to increasingly frequent social media claims that the country’s data security is lacking and numerous government sites have been hacked, the Ministry emphasized.

“All information pertinent to [the Serbian state] is stored according to the highest technical and security standards in governmental data centers in Belgrade and Kragujevac. Furthermore, expert services under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Information Agency, the Office for Information Technology and Electronic Administration as well as the Army of Serbia coordinate to monitor all activity,” the press release reads.

The Ministry added that “the unsettling posts appearing on social media aim to engender fear in the [Serbian] public and represent elements of the special war being led against [the] country.”
