Speaking for the March 16 edition of the Politika daily, Special Prosecutor for Cybercrime Branko Stamenkovic said that, over the last five years, the Prosecutor’s Office has investigated 11 cases where the plaintiffs were journalists Marko Vidojkovic and Nenad Kulacanin, the authors of the The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly podcast.
“In three cases it was determined that there were no grounds for launching criminal proceedings. In six, it was confirmed [that a crime had been committed],” Stamenkovic told the paper. Of those six, he explained, two cases ended in a guilty verdict and the offenders being punished according to the law, while the remaining four cases are ongoing.
The prosecutor added that the crimes mostly consisted of statements issued via social media from a variety of user profiles.
Due to the threats, PEN International recently enabled Vidojkovic and his wife to emigrate from Serbia, while Kulacanin declined the offer of such assistance citing family reasons.
