On April 12, Radomir Lazovic, one of the leaders of the Don’t Let Belgrade D(r)own movement, said that the most likely date for the snap parliamentary and local Belgrade elections is the spring of 2024, when regular local elections for the rest of Serbia are due to take place.

Lazovic told the Politika daily that, as of late, efforts have been invested in “achieving a coordinated opposition,” which could, despite their mutual differences, topple the Serbian Progressive Party regime through a bare minimum of cooperation.

“This doesn’t entail unnatural coalitions – because we are in favor of multiple program groups taking part in the elections – but rather pertains to parliament operating according to the law, the media being free and the elections being fair,” Lazovic explained.

In the opinion of Democratic Party president Zoran Lutovac, which elections will be held is far more important than when the vote will take place, the paper writes.

“Calling snap parliamentary and local elections in a situation where the president is making all decisions independently doesn’t make much sense. Only snap presidential elections would truly test the legitimacy of Vucic’s regime,” Lutovac said.

People’s Party vice president Sanda Raskovic Ivic stated that her party is always prepared for elections but that they believe it is first necessary to hold a referendum on the EU plan for normalizing relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
