Serbia’s Ambassador to the U.S. Marko Djuric announced on April 13 that he recently spoke to U.S. State Department Special Counselor Derek Chollet regarding possible dates for commencing a strategic dialogue between Serbia and the United States of America. According to Djuric, the talk will represent a milestone in relations between the two countries and will open a new phase in their institutional cooperation.
Explaining exactly what the new phase will entail, Djuric told the Kurir daily: “A concrete mechanism will be established, connecting and involving regular cooperation between our various institutions, all geared towards eventual visa liberalization with the U.S. and a double taxation treaty – which will open the door for American business people in Serbia and Serbian business people in America.”
Asked when the visa liberalization could approximately be expected, the ambassador said that he cannot speak of specific dates or deadlines, but that the very fact that the topic is coming up for discussion is an extremely positive sign.
“Not just for the general public,” he added, “but for the business community as well. I am convinced that our police and border police will be able to quickly meet the standards necessarily for this type of arrangement,” Djuric stressed.
