Defense Minister Milos Vucevic said on April 21 that by demonstrating the Serbian Armed Forces' capabilities in the exercise titled Granit 23, at the Batajnica Air Base, Serbia was not threatening anyone nor did it have pretensions toward anyone, but that a strong army was "a deterrent for those who do not mean us well."

Vucevic told Prva TV that on April 22, citizens would see almost all types of weapons the army had, as well as some novelties, recalling that the event would take place on the occasion of Serbian Armed Forces Day. The army is "a guarantor of preserving peace and freedom," he stressed.

On the subject of the national defense industry, he said - in his words "for the umpteenth time" - that what the industry manufactured was not sold to any warring side.

"Will someone who bought that from us abuse it? That's possible," said the defense minister, indicating that where the weapons will end up later is unknown.

However, he pointed out, Serbia cannot be blamed for that as it behaves like a conscientious vendor and respects all norms of international trade.

"Serbia is not involved in the conflict in Ukraine on either side, we are rooting for that fratricidal war to stop as soon as possible, if it were up to Serbia it would stop today, two brotherly, Slavic, Orthodox Christian peoples are at war," said Vucevic.
