The number of school-aged children self-reporting their psychological distress after the mass shooting in Belgrade elementary school Vladislav Ribnikar had increased, Health Minister Danica Grujicic said on May 9.

Speaking to TV Pink, Grujicic said that after the May 3 mass school shooting, which killed eight pupils and a guard, four children had been admitted to the Child Neuropsychiatry Unit in Belgrade in a single day, two of whom had suicidal feelings and two had thoughts about killing someone.

Grujicic said that the Health Ministry had been preparing mobile teams which would be touring schools in Serbia to hold lectures and speak about “all types of addiction.”

“The aim is to open discussion in schools on all types of addiction – smartphone, video games, drug, and nicotine addiction,” Grujicic stressed.

She also said that it was necessary to encourage children to participate in extracurricular activities, primarily sports.
