The citizens of Serbia have surrendered 5,937 pieces of weaponry and 290,572 ammunition cartridges in several days, the Interior Ministry announced on May 11.

The police have also received 468 pieces of various explosive devices, i.e. bombs and other munitions, the Ministry announced on its Facebook account.

Citizens have been given the period from May 8 to June 8 to surrender, without criminal or any other liability, their unregistered weapons and munitions to the police, or call the police to take these from them.

The drive was launched after two mass murders occurred, in the Vladislav Ribnikar elementary school in Belgrade and in villages around Mladenovac and Smederevo. Citizens may also surrender their registered weapons, which they possess legally.
