U.S. Senators Talk With State Leadership in Belgrade

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic stated during the May 25 meeting with U.S. senators Chris Murphy and Gary Peters that Serbia was committed to developing closer cooperation with the U.S. in all fields of common interest, it was stated by Vucic’s office.

The visiting senators have expressed condolences regarding the recent tragic events in Serbia and, in the context of Senator Murphy’s gun control initiative after an armed attack in a school in the U.S. state of Connecticut, exchanged opinions about the measures the Serbian authorities are implementing, the statement reads.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic met in Belgrade with the U.S. senators and talked about the deepening and development of economic and political cooperation, relations in the region and other fields of mutual interest. Brnabic concurred about the full implementation of the Brussels agreement was exceptionally important, not just for the continuing of the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, but for securing sustainable stability and peace in the region, the government has stated.

During the meeting, which U.S. Ambassador Christopher Hill also attended, Brnabic reiterated that Pristina had not only failed to fulfill the agreement, but had also “suspended a large portion of rights” that are stipulated in the agreement for the Serbs living in Kosovo.
