A new 3,500-meter runway was opened at the Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade on June 7.
This is the second runway of this airport and it will enable the reconstruction of the old main runway, which is soon to commence. When that is completed, this new one, inserted between the existing taxiway and the main runway, will serve as a parallel taxiway and be used as a runway in cases when the main one cannot be used. The investor is the company Belgrade Airport, founded by the French company Vinci that holds the concession on the Nikola Tesla Airport.
The general director of the airport, Francois Berizot, has stated that the Airport employed the most professional people in their respective fields. “I wish to thank all who could not join us for their hard work. This is not just the success of the Belgrade airport – it would not have happened without the airport community,” Berizot stated.
French Ambassador Pierre Cochard has stated that this represented the start of a new stage in cooperation between Serbia and France. “Belgrade Airport is a recognizable symbol of our bilateral cooperation, so that Serbia can take its role as a regional power. This airport is moving towards becoming a regional hub,” Cochard stated.
