A coalition comprising two opposition parties, We Must and Together, on July 4 said that members of the Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament had offered their support to protests in Serbia titled ”Serbia against Violence.” Support had been received from the group vice president Matjaz Nemec, Pedro Marques, Alessandra Moretti, and Tonino Picula, the coalition said in a statement.

The coalition also said that the political group had published on its Twitter that “Serbian citizens deserve government and media that do not promote violence and that treat everyone with respect,” adding that their “support goes to the people in the streets who are once again peacefully asking for changes that would lead to a better and European Serbia.”

According to the coalition, ahead of the fifth Serbian against Violence protest, support has also been offered by the European Green Party. The coalition recalled that “in mid-June, protests were backed by the Party of the European Left leader, Walter Baier, who had said that his political group backed Serbian citizens’ struggle for democracy, transparency, stability, and political accountability of the authorities,” the coalition said in the statement.
