KFOR: No indication of humanitarian crisis in North Kosovo

On July 4, the Serbian Orthodox Church’s Raska-Prizren Diocese requested that KFOR immediately investigate allegations that the Church is involved in smuggling weapons to Kosovo, voiced by UK Foreign Affairs Select Committee Chair Alicia Kearns.

In its statement, the Diocese said it insists that KFOR urgently check the veracity of the accusations Kearns made in the British Parliament, and notify the public on whether any supporting proof has been found.

According to the senior Conservative MP, weapons from Serbia are being smuggled into Kosovo via ambulances and delivered to Orthodox churches in the territory.

“Should these allegations prove true, the church personnel confirmed to be involved in abusing Serbian Orthodox Church facilities and their office for the claimed transport and storing of arms will face the Church’s harshest penalties and will not be allowed to continue their public service,” the press release reads.

The Diocese further stated that, should KFOR be unable to confirm Kearns’s accusals, the Church will, through the UK’s embassy in Pristina, demand the MP apologize for her inflammatory and false claims.
