The latest series of storms that hit Serbia did not cause significant damage to the country’s transport infrastructure, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic announced on Aug. 7.

Speaking for the RTS public service, Vesic maintained that the weekend’s heavy storms, unlike the floods that preceded them, did not result in any major destruction.

The minister further discussed the recently passed Bill on Planning and Development, reiterating that the law will enable the faster issuing of building permits and increased transparency, while also better protecting the public. One of the most significant changes the law has introduced, Vesic said, is that the documentation developers must submit prior to breaking ground now includes an insurance policy for third-party damage.

Vesic also underlined the new requirement whereby developers must submit proof of construction waste disposal, which he said should significantly reduce the number of unregulated landfills throughout the country.
