In the Aug. 14 session of the trial in The Hague against former Kosovo Liberation Army leader Hashim Thaci and co-defendants, charged with crimes committed in Kosovo and Albania in 1998, a former KLA member testified that Fatmir Limaj and Isak Musliu had commanded the ethnic Albanian paramilitary in the village of Lapusnik, where the crimes in the indictment happened.
According to the indictment, Lapusnik, in the Glogovac municipality, was the site of one of over 40 detention centers where the KLA illegally imprisoned, abused and murdered ethnic Albanians deemed disloyal, Serbs and Roma
Thaci's co-defendants are former KLA Headquarters members Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi.
In the brief public portion of the session, the protected witness confirmed that Limaj and Musliu commanded the KLA in the Lapusnik area, while KLA offcer Shukri Buja also played a significant role.
To date, 75 victims have been identified in the indictment, 51 of whom were Serbs. One Roma and 23 ethnic Albanians were also killed in KLA detention centers. The identities of 25 more victims will be revealed during the proceedings before the court, whose official name is the Kosovo Specialist Chambers.
